Learning Digital Photography
Learning digital photography is a lot easier than learning standard old-technology photography simply because it is a lot cheaper to take hundreds and thousands of practice shots. You do not have to buy rolls of film by the case and you do not have to develop thousands of photos to decide which ones work and which ones don’t. This alone makes the learning process more accessible. The price of digital cameras has also dropped considerably over the past few years so you don’t have to take out a loan to pay for photographic education.
Other than that, the rules for learning digital photography are the same as learning standard photography. If you are serious about learning digital photography, there are two things that you need to invest in and one is a good camera and the second is lessons.
Photography lessons are usually available in your community through schools or community groups or photography clubs for a minimal cost. If you have not purchased your camera yet, wait until your first class in case the instructor offers advice on buying a camera. If you have a camera, then take that one with you. Remember, the camera is merely a tool. Like any tool, the secret is in knowing how to use it.
The course does not have to be on learning digital photography. Any course on photography will help you get started. What you need to learn are the techniques that make good photographs, regardless of how they are being taken. You won’t need to learn how to develop photos but you can benefit greatly from learning about production of photos. There are many different types and qualities of photographic paper and if you plan to present your digital photography in traditional ways, you will need to learn one kind of paper from another.
